The San Cristobal Apartments, an addition to the historical urban fabric due to structural deficiencies and demolition requirements of the existing building, are located in the short lived four plots of land of late nineteenth century single family houses converted more than 90 years ago to a large building of overwhelming scale. The site is surrounded by three streets, Sol, Norzagaray and Luna Streets, and it is in front of the entrance of the San Cristóbal Castle, a very important component of the San Juan National Historic Site (a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site).  Each one of these streets (public spaces) has a particularity regarding architectural rhythms and progressions. The affordable housing in a historic district is located in the northeastern section of Old San Juan.
