ELDERLY HOUSING – HABITABLE SPACE

An existing 14 story abandoned building in the heart of Santurce central district is transformed into a 156 one- and 2-bedroom units for independent elderly living with commercial space at ground and second level, and a new parking structure. The property, built around 1952-1954, is located across stop 22 of Santurce, close to the corner of Ponce De León and De Diego Avenue and adjacent to the Ciudadela Mix Use Development. The property has its main pedestrian entrance from Ponce de Leon Ave., an internal plaza connecting to Ciudadela’s plaza, and an additional parking access from the Antonsanti St. Cafes, restaurants, theaters, bookstores and other urban amenities at walking distance from the property are the ideal setting for the elderly community it houses. The goal of this project is to provide appropriate accommodations to the needs of the independent senior citizens within a structure that enables healthy aging.
