CONSERVATION TRUST OF PUERTO RICO

HEADQUARTERS

“The Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to secure functional and healthy ecosystems in the islands of Puerto Rico, and to instill in their inhabitants a sense of responsibility toward the conservation or our natural resources, so that we may count on the ecosystem services that will help us achieve our social, economic and quality-of-life goals.”

– Mission Statement of The Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico

The Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico acquired the historic Antiguo Banco Español building (at 152 de Tetuán street in Old San Juan) and proposed a major renovation in the aim of centralizing its administrative facilities. The building’s historic value will be preserved by restoring its most emblematic architectural elements, replacing only the materials that are in precarious condition, and by clearly identifying the new interventions through a contrasting architectural vocabulary. The structure has been previously altered and rehabilitated, and its actual use is that of an office building. The major renovation objectives are: update and upgrade the building’s infrastructure, security, code compliance and space requirements for its new tenants, preserve the building’s historic value, and work toward a Basic LEED Certification, in the spirit of the Land Conservation Trust and the vision of its projects.
